We have computer resources and personnel in various locations. Setting up and managing traditional VPNs is a pain, especially when dealing with resources that cross the boundaries of different Internet providers, VPS hosting companies and NAT firewalls.
What we use for this is something called ZeroTier. It uses a mesh VPN to create a virtual flat network. Combined with a few entries in host files, it allows people working remotely to get into our lab software just by going to https://lab.
In the future, we may transition to the Nebula flat network solution, but it's not quite ready for prime time because in its first iteration it isn't handling routed networks behind NAT very well.
